This half term our topic will be . . .
The children will have opportunities to learn about:

•· Experimenting creatively with paints, collage materials and papier mache

•· Reception children will also benefit from playing games with the words on their word list and practising writing the sound of the week correctly
In Language and Literacy your child will experience...
•· Listening and sound games
•· Hearing and identifying beginning and end sounds in words
•· Recognising more letters of the alphabet and knowing the sound they make.
•· Sharing books and favourite stories
•· Following handwriting patterns to develop pencil control
•· Role playing familiar stories
•· Write labels and captions for pictures and practise writing their name using correct letter formation.
•· Reception children will also continue reading the Oxford Reading Tree books and other texts of a similar level.
In mathematics your child will experience...
•· Reciting numbers 1 to 10
•· Learning counting songs and rhymes
•· Counting 1-10/20 objects (Nursery), 10/20 and beyond (Reception)
•· Ordering numbers 0 -10/20 (Nursery) 10/20 and beyond (Reception)
•· Adding and taking away groups of objects
•· Identifying 2D and 3D shapes
•· Using shapes to make pictures and patterns
•· Comparing lengths and weights, using words such as longer/shorter, heavier/lighter
In other areas of the curriculum we will be...
•· Looking at and drawing simple aerial maps
•· Playing movement games and dance
•· Exploring a variety of art techniques
•· Learning new songs
•· Finding out about the Chinese New Year
•· Following rules and making sensible choices
Just a few reminders
Thank you very much for your 50p donations. With the help of these donations we have purchased some shape stamps, books, Dance CDs and have also continued to buy ingredients for playdough and cooking. We always leave the 50p pot out in the mornings and all contributions are greatly received.
As the weather gets colder, please ensure that children have a warm waterproof coat to wear in the playground.
Health and safety regulations mean that the wearing of all hooped earrings in school is not allowed. If your child wears earrings, could you please ensure that they are studs and that you have completed a disclaimer form allowing them to be worn for P.E. We are not allowed to put in or take out earrings and if a child has hooped earrings or does not have a signed disclaimer form they will not be allowed to take part in a P.E. lesson. Children should not wear any other form of jewellery in school.
Reception children
Please make sure that your child has a P.E. kit, consisting of a pair of shorts and a T-shirt at school at all times. Please ensure that all school uniform and P.E. kit is labelled. P.E. will be on Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday mornings.
Make sure that your child has a book bag, which they should bring to school every day along with their contact book and reading book.
Nursery children
We have P.E. on Wednesday. Please make sure your child wears tracksuit trousers, socks and trainers on P.E. days.
If your child has a book bag, they can borrow books from the book corner, but please remember to return them!
